On 4 December, in celebration of Constitution Day, the chambers of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Constitutional Court and the “UzArchive” Agency jointly organized an exhibition entitled “An Exhibition of Archival Documents Dedicated to the History of the Creation of the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan.”
Pursuant to Presidential Decree No. F–60 of 21 November 2025, “On Preparing for and Holding the Celebration of Constitution Day of the Republic of Uzbekistan,” the exhibition was organized to appropriately and at a high level mark the thirty-third anniversary of the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan, to unite citizens around its noble values and under the guiding idea “The Constitution — the guarantor of human dignity, freedom, equality and justice!”
The exhibition was held as the III Republican exhibition under the title “An Exhibition of Archival Documents Dedicated to the History of the Creation of the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan,” featuring documents from state archival holdings.
Hosted in the newly established Tashkent History Museum building of the State Museum of the History of Uzbekistan, the exhibition displayed over 100 archival items from the National Archive of Film, Photo and Sound Documents of Uzbekistan and the holdings of the National Archive of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The preparation of this photo exhibition was carried out in close cooperation with the Uzbekistan Academy of Arts, the Tashkent House of Photography, and the State Museum of the History of Uzbekistan.
The ceremonial opening was attended by deputies of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, members of the Senate, judges and staff of the Constitutional Court, representatives of ministries and agencies, and faculty and students from higher education institutions.
The event was opened with introductory remarks by Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis M. Khodjaeva, Chairman of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan M. Abdusalomov, and Director of the “UzArchive” Agency U. Yusupov, who spoke about the creation of the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the amendments introduced to the Constitution in the context of the New Uzbekistan. In particular, they noted that the Constitution is the foundation of all our laws and the guarantee of the country’s welfare and the people’s prosperity; that in recent years broad reforms have been implemented across all spheres of life, grounded above all in attention to human rights and freedoms, respect for human dignity and the recognition of human rights as the highest value.
The organizers explained that the exhibition is structured in two symbolic parts. The first part presents constitutions adopted in Uzbek history, including the Constitution adopted in 1992; the second part highlights constitutional reforms during the era of the New Uzbekistan, in which President Shavkat Mirziyoyev is recognized as the “Architect of the New Uzbekistan” and the author of the principal idea behind the updated Constitution.
At the beginning of the exhibition a documentary video about the creation and adoption of the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the documents related to the updated Constitution in the context of the New Uzbekistan was screened.
Visitors to the exhibition showed strong interest in the photographic documents relating to the history of the Constitution’s creation. Many viewers were visibly moved to see archival materials such as the list of the first Constitutional Commission and letters of proposals from citizens of that period.
Importantly, it was emphasized that new provisions have been incorporated into the Fundamental Law to meet the needs of the New Uzbekistan and its development. The content and essence of the Constitution were explained in detail as the legal foundation for the development of the New Uzbekistan: citizens’ duties and responsibilities, protection of human rights and freedoms, consistent liberalization and modernization of all spheres of social life, and the Constitution’s role as an important legal basis for the development of education, science, culture and spirituality.
The exhibition will continue at the Tashkent History Museum located in Adiblar Khiyoboni (Writers’ Boulevard) in Tashkent until 11 December.
