On February 17, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., an online seminar was held via the Zoom platform on the topic: “Statehood and Coinage of Azerbaijan from the 3rd Century BC to the Mid-18th Century.” The seminar was conducted in Russian.

The keynote speaker was Pirguliyeva Ganira Ali qizi, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Archaeology and Ethnography, Faculty of History, Baku State University.

During the lecture, the speaker analyzed the formation of early state structures in the territory of Azerbaijan beginning in the 3rd century BC, the traditions of medieval statehood, and the political processes that continued until the mid-18th century. Particular attention was given to numismatics as an important historical source reflecting symbols of statehood, economic relations, trade routes, and the political authority of rulers.

The lecturer provided a detailed overview of coins from various historical periods, examining their iconography, inscriptions, and minting locations, and highlighting their significance as primary historical sources. The interconnection between archaeological findings and written sources was also illustrated with relevant examples.

At the conclusion of the seminar, participants engaged in a discussion session, asking questions and exchanging views on the topic. The event contributed to strengthening academic cooperation, promoting comparative studies of regional history, and advancing research in the field of numismatics.
